Low/Mid Back and Spine Care

Overview

If you’re dealing with low back pain, you’re not alone. Studies show that up to 80% of adults will experience this at some point in their lives. In fact, low back pain ranks as the third most burdensome condition in the U.S., following heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), due to its impact on health, lost productivity, and missed workdays.

The lower back, or lumbar region, is the most commonly affected area, but pain can also occur in the mid-back (thoracic) region. The lumbar spine supports much of your body’s weight, and several factors—like age, activity level, posture, body mechanics, genetics, and even mental health—can contribute to back pain. These issues can sometimes be managed, but some factors, like genetics and age, are beyond control.

Physical therapy is essential in preventing acute low back pain and managing chronic low back pain. Through patient education, improving workplace ergonomics, teaching proper body mechanics, and addressing posture, physical therapists help reduce the risk of back pain.

Overview

At Move Better Physical Therapy, we specialize in treating sciatica by addressing both the symptoms and underlying causes. Our personalized treatment plans focus on relieving the pain that radiates from the lower back down the leg, often caused by compression of the sciatic nerve. Through a combination of manual therapy, targeted exercises, and postural corrections, we aim to reduce inflammation, improve mobility, and strengthen the muscles that support your spine. By teaching proper movement techniques and providing ongoing education, we help patients prevent future flare-ups and achieve long-term relief from sciatica.
